The exposition just inaugurated at Strozzi Palace presents 250 masterpieces from the most important museums of the world: paintings and drawings, wonderful and clever scientific instruments, celestial atlas, archeological finds, inedited wall paintings of Pompei, sculptures, miniature codes, extraordinary cosmological and functional models realized for the circumstance. Florence commemorates one of its most genial sons with this spectacular exposition, in occasion of the fourth centenary of the first celestial discoveries of Galielo Galilei (the real nature of the moon, the sunspots, the Jupiter's satellites) that have revolutionized the conception of the universe. The exposition has been ideated and treated by Paolo Galluzzi of the "Academy dei Lincei", director of the Intitute and Museum of the science-history of Florence and it consistes in six section. The first one dats back to the dawn of the astronomy (Mesopotamia, Egypt, biblical cosmos). The second one describes the spherical conception of the cosmos devolped by the classical Greece (Plato and Aristotle). The third reminds to the hellenistic Greece and to the idea of the geometrical cosmos (Tolomeo). Then follow three section concerning Islam, the Christianize of the universe and the new birth of the astronomy (Copernic with the heliocentric thesis and Tycho Brahe). With the seventh section makes the scene Galileo and his telescope. At the end the ideal transfer with Keplero and Newton (who born in 1642 when Galileo dies) underlines the affirmation of the modern science. The exposition penetrates also into the universe of the fears and hopes of the humanity, describing the relation between astronomy and astrology and between astrology and music, medicine, the formation of the nature and of the inclinations. Concerning the extraordinary fascination that cosmology has exercised on architectur and art it's emblematic the case of Albrecht Durer and, in general, the relation between melancholy and the planet Saturn. In the section dedicated to Galileo we find the details of the discoveries together with one relic (a finger of the right hand) and with one of his first telescopies. The section presents also an amazing complete review of the progressive definition of the moon-faced, starting from the first paintings realized thanks to the telescopy. A spectacular DVD presents suggestive simulations of the main world-system and shows the most important scientific instruments. From the web sites www.palazzostrozzi.org ans www.portaleragazzi.it it's possible to access to the elaboration and programs for schools, teachers and young people; to them is dedicated also an interactive game regarding Galileo. It is also possible to obtain more information on the big tuscany scientist thanks to a sort of Passport with special itineraries and free-passes. It is a free journal that the Fundation of Strozzi Palace offer to the visitators of the expo, it has got in fact the shape of a passport and contains many information and curiosity regarding the exposition, besides maps, itineraries and useful indications for the visit of museums, galleries, collections, churches, villas and residence of Tuscany that reconnect to the figure of the scientist. The scientific responsability of the exposition is the Institute and Museum of Scientific History. Among the sponsor companies of the Fundation of Strozzi Palace there are the Provincial Department, the Council Department, the Chamber of Commerce of Florence and the Association Partners of Strozzi Palace.
